Storms of 2009
2009
Was a very slow year for many chasers. There were a few really good tornado events. I did not have the opportunity to see any of the really good events. I came away with two small, brief tornadoes, making my 10 year total tornado count, 75. I was able to witness lots of good structure and a few really good funnels throughout the year. I witnessed one really large funnel in the occlusion of a meso over Oregon, Missouri June 7, 2009.
This year I chased with my Nikon D40x DSLR and my 3CCD Panasonic Mini-dv camera. I chased with Amos Magliocco, Scott Eubanks, Dave Fick, Nick Grillo, Bob Hartig, Bill Oosterban, and Tom Oosterban. I met a lot of stormtrackers as well. I also caught up with Scott Currens, having a brief yet good conversation. Enjoy the year in pictures. After about a month and a half lull in any type of severe weather activity, a system finally came through in the late evening of the 27th. Bob Hartig and I headed to the lake shore and captured as much lightning as the storm allowed us to. For this time of the year and the time of day that it occurred it was a pretty good lightning producer. We were happy with what we came away with witnessing.

Bob Hartig and I chased a non sever event. WE went north of St. Johns and did not catch much other than a dinky shelf cloud and some descent CG's which i never was able to capture. We then meandered south to Charlotte, MI and capture the several of the following CG images. Later that night i captured two more Lightning shots off of my apartment balcony.

Shortly after getting back from Missouri the night before, I rested up and went back out this afternoon and followed the warm front north of Lansing MI. Was able to witness several funnels and some lowering's, but nothing could get its act together. This was a fun chases, there were no chasers to compete with. It is Michigan were talking about here.
